Panic gripped Hyderabad’s Begumpet Airport on Wednesday morning after airport authorities received a bomb threat via email. According to officials, the email claimed that a bomb had been planted at the airport and threatened a major explosion, prompting immediate high alert measures.
As soon as the information was received, police forces and security agencies were deployed at the airport. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Begumpet Division, confirmed that a bomb threat mail was received in the morning. Following the threat, a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dog teams conducted an intensive search across the entire airport premises and surrounding areas.
Thorough Security Check Underway
Security personnel cordoned off several zones within the airport and restricted movement in sensitive areas. All incoming and outgoing movement was temporarily monitored to prevent any suspicious activity. However, as of the latest update, no explosive material has been found, and the search operation is still ongoing to ensure complete safety.
Previous Bomb Threat on IndiGo Flight
Just a day earlier, a bomb threat was reported on an IndiGo flight that had taken off from Kochi for Delhi after arriving from Muscat. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Nagpur. After a full security check, the plane, which had 157 passengers and crew members on board, was cleared and allowed to continue to Delhi.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are now investigating the source of the email threat to Begumpet Airport. Cybercrime units are also involved in tracing the origin of the email and identifying those responsible. Officials have confirmed that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of spreading panic through such hoax threats.
Security has been further strengthened at key airports following back-to-back threats, and agencies are on high alert across the country.
