Chinese scientists have developed a mosquito-sized drone that could revolutionize military surveillance and operations. This tiny robot, created by the Robotics Laboratory at the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) in Hunan province, was recently showcased on China Central Television’s military channel.

According to NUDT student Liang Hexiang, the miniature robot is designed specifically for intelligence gathering and executing special missions in war. It is approximately 1.3 centimeters long, matching the size of an actual mosquito. With two small wings and three ultra-thin legs, the device can easily land on the palm and operate almost undetected.

The drone is remote-controlled via smartphone and includes advanced features designed for battlefield conditions. Its design enables it to sneak through small spaces, making it effective in locating enemies who are hidden or taking cover.

The device could be extremely useful in urban warfare and electronic surveillance. Due to its small size, it is nearly impossible to detect. Soldiers can carry it easily, using it to gain real-time intelligence in high-risk areas. During natural disasters such as earthquakes, the drone can crawl under debris to search for survivors. It can also monitor air and water quality.

Despite its advantages, the micro drone has limitations. Its small size reduces battery capacity and flight time. However, further advancements in AI, sensor technology, and battery efficiency could significantly improve its performance.

Developing such a tiny robot is a remarkable engineering achievement. Creating a drone of this size with working wings, sensors, and communication equipment is no small task. China’s success in this area shows that it is ahead of many countries in the next generation of surveillance tools. These micro-drones could become an essential part of future military strategies.
