Old Diesel, Petrol, and CNG Vehicles to Be Banned from Fuel Stations in Delhi from July 1

Petrol Pump

Starting July 1, 2025, petrol, diesel, and CNG will not be provided to old vehicles in Delhi, as per the Delhi government’s latest move to tackle rising air pollution. This rule applies to 15-year-old petrol and CNG vehicles and 10-year-old diesel vehicles, which will now be classified as End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles.

Vehicles to Be Identified via ANPR Cameras

To enforce the rule strictly, Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are being installed at all fuel stations in the city. These cameras will automatically detect if a vehicle falls under the banned category. If so, fuel station staff are instructed to deny petrol, diesel or CNG to such vehicles on the spot.

SOPs Issued, Clear Instructions to Petrol Pumps

The Delhi government has released Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for fuel stations and enforcement officers. Petrol pumps have been asked to display boards clearly informing the public about this ban. Non-compliance will invite strict penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Petrol pump owners can also be penalised or face action if they fail to implement the order.

Rule Aimed at Controlling Pollution

This decision is part of the Delhi government’s larger effort to control vehicular pollution, one of the major contributors to the city’s poor air quality. By phasing out older, more polluting vehicles, the administration aims to ensure cleaner air and better health standards for Delhiites.

Seizure of Vehicles for Violation

The Transport Department and other agencies will conduct strict monitoring, and any violation may result in vehicle seizure. The move follows the broader enforcement of National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines to phase out old vehicles.
