A huge fire broke out on Monday morning on a Singapore-flagged container ship, MV Wan Hai 503, in the Arabian Sea near the Kerala coast. The Indian Navy’s ship INS Surat has been sent for rescue operations.
Explosion Reported Underdeck
According to sources, the explosion happened in the underdeck of the ship. The ship is 270 metres long and has a draft of 12.5 metres. It had left Colombo on June 7 and was scheduled to arrive in Mumbai on June 10.
At 10:30 am, the Mumbai-based Marine Operations Centre informed the Kochi Marine Centre about the explosion. The situation is being monitored seriously due to the risk of further fire or damage.
No Casualties Reported So Far
As per the latest update, no injuries or deaths have been reported, but rescue efforts are ongoing, and all agencies are on high alert. The Indian Navy is working to ensure the safety of the crew and the ship.
