Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is all set to expand its manufacturing capacity in India. The company has announced that it will add a new production line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, which will be operational by 2027.
This plant is already one of Honda’s key manufacturing units in India. With this new addition, the total capacity of the Gujarat plant will increase to 26.1 lakh (2.61 million) units per year, making it Honda’s biggest two-wheeler production facility in the world.
Currently, Honda operates four factories in India – in Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Gujarat. The new line at the Gujarat plant alone will add a capacity of 6.5 lakh (650,000) units annually.
This move is seen as a big step by Honda to meet the growing demand for two-wheelers in India and overseas markets. It will also help boost local employment and strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
