Gujarat, India: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a big investment of INR 920 crore to set up a new production line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat. This will be Honda’s largest motorcycle assembly plant in the world once the new line becomes operational.
According to the company, the new line will start working in 2027 and will add a capacity of 6.5 lakh (650,000) units per year, taking the total plant capacity to 26.1 lakh (2.61 million) units annually. This expansion will also generate around 1,800 new jobs, boosting employment in the region.
Currently, Honda runs four plants in India – located in Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Gujarat – with a combined annual capacity of 61.4 lakh (6.14 million) units. With the new line, the total capacity is expected to increase to around 70 lakh (7 million) units by 2027.
Also, in April 2025, Honda crossed a major milestone by achieving 70 million units of cumulative production in India since it began operations in 2001.
Hero MotoCorp Records ₹1,081 Crore Profit in Q4 FY25
Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler company, reported a 6% rise in standalone net profit at INR 1,081 crore for the quarter ending March 31, 2025. This performance is in line with analysts’ expectations.
Although the total sales volume stayed flat, the company earned more by selling higher-priced premium bikes and scooters, which helped increase profits. Revenue grew by 4% to reach INR 9,938.7 crore during the quarter. In total, 13.8 lakh (1.38 million) two-wheelers were sold by Hero in the quarter.
The company believes that upcoming income-tax benefits, possible repo rate cuts, and a good monsoon will boost rural income and increase demand for two-wheelers in the coming months.
