Bengaluru, June 21, 2025 — An IndiGo flight travelling from Guwahati to Chennai issued a “Mayday” distress call on Friday night after experiencing critically low fuel levels, aviation sources confirmed. The flight was diverted and made a safe emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The incident occurred when the aircraft was nearing Chennai but was unable to land due to bad weather and air traffic congestion. After multiple holding patterns in the air and with fuel running dangerously low, the pilot declared a Mayday — the highest level of emergency in aviation.
The flight, which was carrying over 180 passengers, was immediately given priority landing clearance at Bengaluru airport. Emergency teams and fire rescue vehicles were placed on standby, as per standard protocol.
According to airline sources, the aircraft landed safely without any injury to passengers or crew. All passengers were deplaned normally and arrangements were made to take them to Chennai via a later flight.
