Planning to book a Tatkal train ticket soon? Then you must know the new rules shared by Indian Railways. Starting from 1st July 2025, only Aadhaar-authenticated users will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets through the IRCTC website or mobile app.
This means, if you are booking Tatkal online, your Aadhaar must be linked and verified with your IRCTC account. Without Aadhaar, you won’t be able to book Tatkal tickets from home.
For Aadhaar Users:
- From 01.07.2025, Tatkal booking on IRCTC (website/app) will be allowed only for Aadhaar-authenticated users.
For Non-Aadhaar Users (or Agent Bookings):
- From 15.07.2025, Tatkal tickets booked via PRS counters or agents will need OTP verification on the passenger’s mobile.
- Authorised travel agents are not allowed to book Tatkal tickets in the first 30 minutes after the booking window opens.
Why This Rule?
The railway ministry says this step is to reduce misuse of Tatkal tickets, increase fairness, and promote verified bookings.
So if you haven’t linked your Aadhaar with your IRCTC account yet, do it soon to avoid last-minute problems while booking Tatkal tickets.
