Ahmedabad is set to get its first Olympic-themed road as part of a new city-wide development plan. Specifically, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will redevelop the 3.3 km stretch from Kenyug Circle to SG Highway with an Olympic theme. Consequently, this initiative aims to boost the city’s infrastructure and global image.
This project is part of AMC’s “Iconic Roads” initiative; moreover, under this initiative, the team will redesign seven selected stretches. Specifically, the Olympic-themed stretch will feature sports sculptures, thematic lighting, and open public spaces that represent Olympic ideals
The road will have three traffic lanes, wide footpaths ranging from 2 to 3 metres, proper drainage, street lighting, and designated walking and cycling tracks. There will also be public seating areas, gazebos, children’s play zones, and designated vending spaces to make it a complete urban experience.
Six Other Roads to Get Iconic Makeovers
Alongside the Olympic Themed Road, additionally, six other major roads will be transformed with different themes and improved urban features:
- Ashram Road will be given a Gandhi theme, reflecting the city’s heritage.
- Roads like Iskcon to Pakwan, Airport to Dafnala, Naroda Muktidham to Dehgam, and Keshavbag to Pakwan will also be upgraded.
Each of these roads will include upgraded walking paths, artistic elements, and organised parking. The aim is to make Ahmedabad a modern, walkable, and visually appealing city for both residents and tourists.
The redevelopment also supports AMC’s broader vision to improve liveability and strengthen the city’s case to become a host city for international events.
Ahmedabad’s Olympic-themed design, therefore, aligns with the city’s preparation for a potential bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. In addition, the civic body is incorporating sports themes into public infrastructure, thereby promoting a sporting culture and urban vibrancy.
