Monsoon Session Extended by 9 Days: Centre to Introduce 8 Key Bills in Parliament

The monsoon session of Parliament, which was initially scheduled to end on August 12, has been extended by nine days. It will now continue till August 19, 2025. The session will begin on July 21, as announced by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The central government plans to introduce and pass eight important bills in the Lok Sabha during this extended session. These bills focus on areas such as taxation, education, sports, and mineral regulation.

Here are the 8 key bills to be introduced:

  • Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Public Trust (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025
  • Indian Institute of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Geographical Heritage Sites and Monuments (Protection and Preservation) Bill, 2025
  • Mines (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
  • National Sports Administration Bill, 2025
  • National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025

In addition to these, the following bills are also expected to be discussed and possibly passed:

  • Goa State Legislative Assembly Constituencies Reorganization Bill, 2024
  • Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024
  • Indian Ports Bill, 2025
  • Income Tax Bill, 2025

After a gap of over three months, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will reconvene at 11 AM on July 21. The previous session, the Budget Session, ran from January 31 to April 4, 2025, after which both Houses were adjourned indefinitely.

All MLAs have been informed about the extended session and working days through the Members Portal via official summons.
