After the conclusion of the G7 Summit in Canada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a 35-minute telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to sources, the call was initiated by President Trump himself. This was the first direct conversation between the two leaders, focusing primarily on Operation Sindoor, India’s firm response to terrorism.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri shared official information about this conversation.
No Talk on Trade or Mediation
Foreign Secretary Misri stated, “PM Modi made it clear to President Trump that during Operation Sindoor, there was absolutely no discussion on the India-US trade agreement, nor was any issue of mediation between India and Pakistan raised at any level.”
Trump had reportedly expressed his desire to stop in India while returning from the G7 Summit via the US, to personally meet PM Modi. However, due to PM Modi’s pre-scheduled engagements, the meeting could not take place.
Full-Length Telephonic Discussion
Although the two leaders were supposed to meet at the G7 summit, President Trump returned to the US earlier than expected, making the phone call the alternative. The conversation lasted approximately 35 minutes.
It is worth noting that this was the first formal talk between the two leaders since the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22. After that attack, Trump had earlier called Modi to express condolences and strong support against terrorism.
Foreign Secretary Misri added, “PM Modi firmly presented India’s stance on terrorism and clearly stated that India will not consider terror attacks as proxy war anymore, but direct acts of war.”
No Third-Party Role in India-Pakistan Issues
Vikram Misri further clarified that, “PM Modi explained there was no talk with the US regarding India’s internal security operations or any ceasefire talks. The ceasefire was agreed to only at Pakistan’s request. India never accepted third-party mediation and will not accept it in future either.”
Operation Sindoor: A Clear Message
A detailed discussion on Operation Sindoor was held during the call. PM Modi informed President Trump that after April 22, India had made its firm intentions against terrorism clear. He added that on the night of May 6-7, Indian forces targeted terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK, ensuring no civilian harm.
Both leaders also touched on the ongoing Israel-Iran tensions and exchanged views on global security concerns.
