On June 15, a tragic incident occurred in Pune, Maharashtra, when an old bridge over the Indrayani river in the Kundmala area suddenly collapsed. It is feared that several people were trapped in the accident. So far, 3 deaths have been confirmed, while 38 people have been rescued by emergency teams.
Following this tragic incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and spoke on the phone with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During the call, Fadnavis informed PM Modi about the rescue efforts and the actions taken to support the affected people.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his thoughts on the accident through a post on social media platform ‘X’. He wrote:
“Spoke to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the Pune accident and got full details of the situation. The NDRF team quickly reached the spot and saved many lives through timely rescue work. I offer my condolences to the families who lost loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
The NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) played a key role in rescuing the trapped individuals and continues its search operation at the site.
Congress Raises Strong Questions
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also reacted to the tragedy. He posted on ‘X’:
“It is a heartbreaking incident the collapse of a bridge over the Indrayani river near Talegaon in Pune district. My prayers are with the families of the victims and I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. I appreciate the hard work of rescue teams who are working tirelessly.”
Kharge also took a dig at the government by demanding strict accountability, saying:
“Such preventable disasters raise serious questions about the responsibility of those in power. All those responsible must face strict legal action.”
The collapse of the bridge has sparked a political debate, with the opposition holding the government accountable and the administration promising full support for relief efforts. The incident has highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure inspection and safety checks, especially during the monsoon season.
