Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Network, Seize 6.5 Kg

Amritsar, June 21, 2025 — In a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Punjab Police on Friday arrested two smugglers and seized 6.56 kilograms of heroin, along with two pistols and ammunition, near the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar district.

The operation was led by the Counter-Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police, which acted on specific intelligence inputs. The smugglers were caught while attempting to transport a fresh consignment of drugs and weapons believed to have been dropped from across the Pakistan border using a drone.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, the arrested individuals have been identified as Harpreet Singh and Sarabjeet Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran district. They were in possession of two China-made pistols, live cartridges, and heroin worth several crores in the international market.

Official Statement

DGP Yadav said, “This is yet another success in our ongoing war against drugs and cross-border smuggling. We are closely coordinating with central agencies and BSF to tackle drone-based narcotics delivery from Pakistan.”

An FIR has been registered at SSOC Amritsar under various sections of the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and the IPC. Further investigation is underway to trace the larger network involved, including possible handlers across the border and local collaborators.
