Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ on May 29, 2025, at Anand Agricultural University. This state-wide initiative aims to benefit over 3.5 lakh farmers across 2,951 villages, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’.
Empowering Farmers Through Modern Practices
The campaign, running from May 29 to June 12, is organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, in collaboration with ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and agricultural universities. Fifty-five expert teams will operate across 235 talukas in Gujarat, providing hands-on guidance on:
- Natural farming techniques
- Soil health management
- Optimal fertilizer use, including nano fertilizers
- Adoption of improved seed varieties
The campaign also aims to raise awareness about various Central and State government schemes designed for farmer welfare.
Regional Outreach
The initiative targets farmers across Gujarat’s four agricultural university zones:
- Anand Agricultural University: 1.02 lakh farmers in 793 villages across 9 districts
- Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University: 80,000 farmers in 465 villages across 7 districts
- Junagadh Agricultural University: 1.20 lakh farmers in 933 villages across 10 districts
- Navsari Agricultural University: Over 71,000 farmers from 760 villages in 7 districts
At the launch event, Chief Minister Patel distributed assistance kits to farmers and emphasized Gujarat’s commitment to agricultural innovation. He highlighted the state’s initiatives, such as Krishi Mahotsav and Soil Health Cards, which aim to bring science and technology directly to farmers.
Nationwide Campaign
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is, indeed, part of a nationwide campaign announced by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar. Furthermore, the initiative aims to educate 1-1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts in India about modern farming techniques and new seed varieties. In addition, teams comprising scientists, experts, officials, and progressive farmers will travel across the country to engage directly with farmers. Consequently, they will provide tailored guidance ahead of the Kharif season.
