YU7 Electric SUV

Xiaomi is all set to officially launch its first electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, on Thursday, June 26, at 7:00 PM. The tech giant will also unveil its new foldable smartphone MIX Flip 2 and the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro during the same event.

YU7 SUV: Tesla Model Y Rival Launches Sooner Than Expected

The Xiaomi YU7, a direct competitor to Tesla Model Y, was first introduced by Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, on May 22. Although initially planned for a July launch, Lei recently confirmed that the event was postponed to late June.

At an investor meeting on June 3, Lei revealed that the exact pricing of the YU7 will be disclosed 1-2 days before launch. He dismissed rumors suggesting a starting price of RMB 235,900, saying it would not be just RMB 20,000 higher than the SU7 sedan.

Xiaomi SU7: A Strong Foundation for the EV Market

Xiaomi’s first EV model, the SU7 electric sedan, launched on March 28, 2024, with a base price of RMB 215,900. It was positioned as a challenger to the Tesla Model 3. The sedan witnessed over 28,000 units delivered in May and continues to face waiting periods up to 51 weeks, as per the Xiaomi EV App.

YU7 SUV Garners Massive Attention

According to Lu Weibing, Xiaomi’s President, the YU7 has received more pre-launch inquiries than the SU7 during its initial phase. As of May 25, the number of paid reservations for the YU7 was three times higher than that of the SU7 in a similar period. This indicates strong market enthusiasm for the new SUV.

More Devices to Be Unveiled

At the June 26 event, Xiaomi will also launch:

  • MIX Flip 2 Foldable Smartphone
  • Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, featuring the in-house Xring O1 chip
  • A “next-gen personal smart device”, details of which remain under wraps

Lei Jun shared the updates on Weibo, highlighting Xiaomi’s growing ecosystem of smart devices beyond just phones and vehicles.

Conclusion

With the YU7 SUV, Xiaomi is aiming to further cement its place in the electric vehicle market, building on the strong foundation laid by the SU7. As expectations rise, all eyes are on the June 26 launch event, which could redefine Xiaomi’s role in both tech and auto industries.
